AAU will not be closed for the holidays between Christmas and New Year 2022.

It has been decided at the HSU meeting on the 15th of December 2021 that an experiment will be carried out where AAU will not be closed between Christmas and New Year in 2022. This means that the management and the individual work committees will decide whether their department will have low-service days during the period, instead of all units being consistently closed. From the central side, AAU encourages that you use the period between Christmas and New Year to recover and take time off. Contact your local holiday registrar if you are unsure how to plan your holiday between Christmas and New Year.

The experiment will be evaluated after the end of the holiday year to determine whether the university will remain closed during this period in the future.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY AT AALBORG UNIVERSITY (DOES NOT APPLY IN 2022)

Aalborg University is closed between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Consequently, on principle, all AAU employees are required to take holiday on the working days between the public holidays Boxing Day (26 December) and New Year's Eve (31 December).

Closure between Christmas and New Year’s Eve is in accordance with section 10. Employees who have accumulated holidays (either with salary from AAU or with a holiday certificate from another employer) are personally responsible for ‘saving’ the necessary number of holidays to be taken between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. If they fail to do so, holiday without payment must be taken, and their next salary will be reduced accordingly.

Employees who have not earned paid holidays (either with salary from AAU or with a holiday certificate from another employer) will have their salary reduced as the holiday between Christmas and New Year is mandatory.

Low-service days Christmas Holiday 2022 and May 27, 2023

Purpose and delimitation

As a general rule, holidays (including special single holidays) are scheduled and agreed on by the individual employee and his or her immediate superior. However, at their meeting on December 11 2020, the AAU head joint consultation committee decided the following for the year 2020.
