Paid leave may be granted to parents who are admitted to hospital with a child under the age of 14. A maximum of five days per child will be granted within a 12-month period to employees at Aalborg University.
The five days can be taken separately or together, and an agreement may be made to take the five days as ten half days.
This right applies to both parents (birth parents, adoptive parents or other persons who have custody of the child). If both parents are covered by the agreement, i.e. both parents are state employees, a maximum of five days of paid leave can be taken by both parents combined.
An employee who is covered by this rule has a legal claim to paid leave for this purpose. Any agreements on paid or unpaid leave must be made by the employee with their line manager according to the Scheme of Delegation. In each individual case, a specific managerial assessment will be made as regards the need for the employee’s presence in the workplace and the workload involved.
Documentation required when applying for paid leave
The employee must submit documentation to the HR Department from the hospital as well as documentation for the approval by their line manager of the paid leave. Any further processing will then be undertaken by the HR Department.
The following procedure describes rules regarding paid leave due to hospitalisation with a child under the age of 14.
This act applies to employees at Aalborg University covered by the circular on leave for family reasons concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the central organisations for civil servants and employees in equivalent positions and the central organisations for employees appointed on a group contract basis.
