Welcome meetings for international staff and guest researchers
At the beginning of each month International Staff Unit (at Human Resources) runs a Welcome Meeting for new international staff, self-financed PhD Students and non-employed guest researchers.

At the meeting there will be a short introduction to Aalborg University (AAU) and Danish (work) culture, while focus will be on practical issues connected with moving to Denmark/Aalborg. These subjects are i.e. information about registration after arrival, taxes, insurances, banking, driver’s license, daycare and school for children, offers for accompanying spouses/partners, activities after working hours and social offers for expats.
The Welcome Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month (excluding a few dates around holiday periods).
They are aimed on all international staff that has not lived/worked in Denmark previously. This includes self-financed PhD Students and non-employed guest researches staying with AAU for a longer period who can also benefit from being introduced to insurance matters, social activities outside of AAU etc.
Spouses/partners are also welcome to participate.
International Staff Unit will send invitations directly to all international staff regardless of nationality and to self-financed PhD Students and guest researchers from outside EU as some casework will take place in either International Staff Unit and/or Human Resources.
The departments are urged to forward invitations to self-financed PhD Students and guest researchers from within EU.
All international staff, PhD Students and guest researchers are, however, more than welcome to sign up for one of the coming Welcome Meetings even if they have not yet received an invitation.

Please note that Welcome Meetings currently only take place in Aalborg. We will evaluate the meetings and see how we can offer a similar service for staff/guests in Esbjerg and Copenhagen.
